Columbia Gas Contributes $114,000 to Local Organizations Across Their Service Area

December 19, 2011

CANONSBURG, PA – Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania, Inc. and Columbia Gas of Maryland, Inc. today announced they are providing more than $114,000 to local organizations across their 29-county service areas to support those in need this holiday season.

As part that overall contribution, and in alignment with the companies’ commitment to supporting seniors and organizations in the communities they serve, Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania is contributing $20,000 to Meals on Wheels programs serving senior Pennsylvanians in Beaver, Washington, Fayette and York counties.

“Columbia Gas is constantly looking for opportunities to make a difference in the communities we serve,” said President of Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania and Maryland Carol Fox. “We are proud to support organizations like Meals on Wheels, who work to improve the quality of life for our customers and the communities where we deliver safe and reliable natural gas service.”

Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania is also contributing $4,000 to Pittsburgh Oasis, a non-profit organization that promotes lifelong learning, health programs and volunteer engagement for seniors, and Columbia Gas of Maryland is contributing $2,000 to the Washington County Commission on Aging, located in Hagerstown, MD.

In addition to supporting those senior organizations, the Columbia companies are also contributing more than $88,000 to the United Way through their annual United Way Campaigns.

More than three hundred Columbia Gas employees participated in the companies’ 2011 campaigns, with contributions to be distributed to local organizations supported by the United Way throughout Columbia’s Pennsylvania and Maryland service areas.

“I am so proud of our employees who, every year, make a meaningful difference in our communities by giving to their time and monetary donations to the United Way and other organizations they believe in,” said Fox. “Given the tough economic conditions we are currently facing, I find it remarkable that thanks to the generosity of our employees, our companies were able to contribute an additional $8,000 more this year than in 2010.”

As two of the nine energy distribution companies of NiSource Inc., Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania’s and Columbia Gas of Maryland’s donations to senior organizations are part of NiSource Gas Distribution’s Supporting Those In Need campaign providing $150,000 to local, regional and national organizations across its various operating companies.
