Community support

Columbia Gas actively supports organizations that are working to make a difference in the communities we serve. Every year, we award grants that help improve the quality of life for our customers, our employees, and our neighbors in the communities where we deliver safe and reliable natural gas service. Our focus areas are education in the arts and humanities, community development and public safety, and human services.

Grant application process

Eligible organizations must complete a grant application for review and consideration.Requests are accepted year-round, and are reviewed on an ongoing basis.

Who is eligible?

In addition to having focus in one of our focus areas listed above, eligible organizations must have 501(c)(3), non-profit, tax exempt status with the IRS and must provide an impact in Columbia’s service territory. Please review our service territory map to see if your organization is eligible.

Who is not eligible?

The following requests fall outside Columbia Gas of Maryland's area of support emphasis, and are not eligible for our Corporate Contributions Program.  

  • Organizations who do not provide an impact in Columbia Gas of Maryland's service territory
  • General operating requests
  • Organizations without an Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3), non-profit, tax exempt status
  • Capital improvement or building projects
  • Faxed requests
  • Individual schools and school districts
  • Personal grants to individuals
  • Political contributions
  • Highly-specialized health, medical or welfare programs
  • Religious organizations and churches
  • Organizations that discriminate by race, color, creed, gender or national origin
  • Hospitals
  • Libraries
  • Community colleges, two-year institutions and higher education
  • Medical research and education
  • Chairs or professorships
  • General endowment
  • Equipment purchases
  • Golf tournaments

If your organization fits within our guidelines and provides an impact in our service area, please complete our grant application. The fully completed form may emailed to tcuddy@nisource.com, or printed and mailed to: Contributions Manager, Columbia Gas of Maryland, 501 Technology Drive, Canonsburg PA 15317.
