Campaign highlights important safety tips for customers each week throughout the summer

To celebrate the official start of summer, we're kicking off our “Safety Minute” social media campaign, highlighting simple tips anyone can follow to stay safe around natural gas.

“At Columbia Gas, our primary focus is ensuring the safety of our employees and customers,” said Mike Huwar, president of Columbia Gas of Maryland. “Natural gas pipelines have a proven record of safety, but it's important to know what to do in the event of an emergency.”

Each week, Columbia Gas will highlight a specific safety topic related to natural gas safety on its Facebook and Twitter pages, providing links to valuable information on the Columbia Gas of Maryland website.

The first installment explains how to detect natural gas using your senses of sight, smell and hearing and the importance of calling 911 and Columbia Gas if a suspected gas leak is detected.

Future topics of the Safety Minute campaign will include:

  • Calling 811 before you dig
  • Driving safely in work zones
  • Preparing for the unexpected
  • Checking for employee identification
