Columbia Gas of Maryland has earned a safety achievement award from the American Gas Association (AGA), which is given to AGA members who have surpassed industry standards for specific safety requirements. The Leading Indicators Safety Achievement Award was presented at the AGA 2025 Operations Conference this month in Aurora, CO.
"We are proud of this achievement,” said Mark Kempic, Columbia Gas President and Chief Operating Officer, “but we don’t see it as the finish line. We will utilize it in our benchmarks for all of our employees to keep strengthening our safety framework and delivering value to our customers reliably and efficiently.”
The AGA’s Leading Indicators Safety Achievement Award began in 2022 as a way for the AGA to recognize companies who are taking proactive steps to prevent fatalities, injuries, and illnesses, as well as drive behavior change when it comes to employee safety. The award is based on indicators of leading practices from various safety programs including the prevention of Near Misses, responsibly exercising Stop Work Authority, and having an exemplary Safety Culture.
Every year the AGA acknowledges outstanding achievements from utility companies across the nation who advance safety programs during its Operations Conference, the industry’s largest annual gathering of natural gas utilities.
